Might the Anti Smoking Law in the United Kingdom Force Bingo Enthusiasts On to the Internet?
Posted in Bingo on 10/06/2025 11:25 pm by EileenMuch has been written in the papers recently regarding the bingo industry singing the blues as a result of the cigarette ban in Britain. Things have grown so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has called for huge aid to help keep the businesses alive. However does the net adaptation of this classic game offer a salvation, or might it not compare to its bricks and mortar kin?
Bingo is an age old game generally enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. For all that the game of late had witnessed a recent increase in appeal with younger members of society opting to visit the bingo halls instead of the discos on a weekend. This is all about to be reversed with the introduction of the cigarette ban across United Kingdom.
Players will no longer be able to smoke at the same time marking numbers. From the summer of ‘07 all public places will not be allowed to permit smoking in their buildings and this includes Bingo halls, one of the most popular locations where folks like to puff on cigarettes.
The effects of the cigarette ban can already be observed in Scotland where cigarettes are already not permitted in the bingo halls. Profits have dropped and the business is literally fighting for to stay alive. But where have the players gone? Of course they have not cast aside this established game?
The answer is on the internet. People are now realizing that they can participate in bingo from their computer whilst enjoying a cocktail and fag and still enjoy massive cash rewards. This is a recent anomaly and has happened bordering on perfect with the anti smoking law.
Of course playing on the internet is unlikely to replace the collective part of heading over to the bingo hall, but for a group of people the governing edicts have left a lot of bingo players with little choice.
