Might the Anti Smoking Law in Britain Drive Bingo Players Online?

Much has been talked in the papers recently concerning the bingo industry singing the blues as a consequence of the smoking ban in the United Kingdom. Things have grown so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has asked for huge aid to assist in keeping the businesses from going bankrupt. But will the internet version of this quintessential game offer a reprieve, or might it in no way compare to its land based relative?

Bingo is an familiar game usually enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. In any case the game lately had undergone a recent increase in acceptance with younger people deciding to go to the bingo parlors rather than the discos on a Saturday night. This is all about to get flipped on its head with the legislating of the smoking ban across England and Wales.

No more will enthusiasts be permitted to puff on cigarettes at the same time marking off their numbers. From the summer of 2007 every public location will no longer be permitted to allow smoking in their venues and this includes Bingo halls, one of the most common locations where people like to puff on cigarettes.

The effects of the smoking ban can already be observed in Scotland where smoking is already forbidden in the bingo halls. Profits have plunged and the industry is beyond a doubt fighting for to stay alive. But where did all the players go? Certainly they have not abandoned this age old game?

The answer is on the internet. Gamblers realize that they can enjoy bingo from their computer at the same time enjoying a drink and fag and still enjoy massive cash rewards. This is a recent phenomenon and has happened almost perfectly with the ban on cigarettes.

Of course playing on the internet is unlikely to replace the communal portion of heading over to the bingo parlour, but for a demographic of people the governing edicts have left a lot of bingo players with no option.
