Will the Anti Cigarette Law in England Drive Bingo Enthusiasts On to the Internet?

Much has been talked in the press not long ago regarding the bingo industry being hurt as a consequence of the anti smoking law in the United Kingdom. Conditions have become so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has asked for huge tax breaks to assist in keeping the industry from going bankrupt. However does the internet variation of this quintessential game present a reprieve, or will it not compare to its bricks and mortar opposite?

Bingo is an ancient game usually enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. Although the game of late had undergone a recent return in popularity with younger men and women deciding to go to the bingo halls instead of the discos on a Friday night. All this is about to be destroyed with the enforcement of the cigarette ban throughout United Kingdom.

Players will no longer be able to smoke while dabbing numbers. Starting in the summer of 2007 all public places will not be allowed to permit smoking in their venues and this includes Bingo parlours, which are possibly the most favored locations where many people enjoy smoking.

The outcome of the smoking ban can already be seen in Scotland where smoking is already banned in the bingo parlours. Numbers have plummeted and the industry is literally fighting for to stay alive. But where did all the players go? Obviously they have not deserted this age old game?

The answer is on the net. Players realise that they can gamble on bingo in front of their computer at the same time enjoying a cocktail and smoke and in the end, enjoy huge jackpots. This is a recent development and has happened just about perfectly with the ban on cigarettes.

Of course betting on on the web is unlikely to replace the social aspect of heading over to the bingo parlor, but for a group of men and women the governing edicts have left a number of bingo enthusiasts with little choice.
