Can the Anti Cigarette Law in Britain Force Bingo Players On to the Web?

Much has been stated in the papers recently regarding the bingo industry singing the blues because of the cigarette ban in the UK. Conditions have become so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has called for big tax breaks to assist in keeping the businesses from going bankrupt. However does the net adaptation of this quintessential game present a lifeline, or will it never compare to its bricks and mortar peer?

Bingo is an ancient game usually played by the "blue haired" generation. For all that the game recently had witnessed a recent increase in appeal with younger men and women deciding to go to the bingo halls rather than the discos on a Friday night. All this is about to be destroyed with the legislating of the anti smoking law across England and Wales.

Players will no longer be allowed to puff on cigarettes whilst dabbing numbers. Starting in the summer of ‘07 every public place will no longer be allowed to permit cigarettes in their venues and this includes Bingo parlours, which are possibly the most popular locations where folks enjoy smoking.

The results of the anti cigarette law can already be felt in Scotland where cigarettes are already banned in the bingo halls. Players have plummeted and the industry is literally fighting for to stay alive. But where have the players gone? Certainly they have not abandoned this established game?

The answer is online. Players are now realizing that they can wager on bingo in front of their computer at the same time enjoying a beer and fag and in the end, have a chance at monstrous cash rewards. This is a recent phenomenon and has happened bordering on perfect with the anti smoking law.

Of course playing online is unlikely to replace the collective portion of heading over to the bingo hall, but for a demographic of players the governing edicts have left a good many bingo players with no option.
