Might the Smoking Ban in the UK Force Bingo Enthusiasts On to the Net?

Much has been talked in the press recently regarding the bingo industry being hit because of the smoking ban in Britain. Things have become so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has called for massive aid to assist in keeping the industry from going bankrupt. But can the internet adaptation of this traditional game offer a reprieve, or might it never compare to its land based opposite?

Bingo is an familiar game usually enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. However the game recently had witnessed a recent return in acceptance with younger men and women deciding to go to the bingo parlours rather than the clubs on a Saturday night. This is all about to change with the enforcement of the anti cigarette law throughout England and Wales.

Players will no longer be permitted to smoke at the same time marking numbers. From the summer of 2007 all public places will no longer be permitted to allow cigarettes in their locations and this includes Bingo halls, which are possibly the most favored areas where players like to smoke.

The effects of the anti smoking law can already be looked at in Scotland where cigarettes are already not allowed in the bingo halls. Players have plummeted and the industry is literally struggling for to stay alive. But where did the players go? Of course they haven’t forgotten this age old game?

The answer is on the web. Gamblers realise that they can participate in bingo from their computer at the same time enjoying a cocktail and fag and still enjoy monstrous prizes. This is a recent anomaly and has happened bordering on perfect with the ban on cigarettes.

Of course playing on the net is unlikely to replace the collective aspect of heading over to the bingo parlor, but for a demographic of men and women the governing edicts have left a lot of bingo enthusiasts with little alternative.
