Can the Smoking Ban in Britain Take Bingo Enthusiasts On to the Internet?

Much has been talked in the press just a while ago concerning the bingo industry singing the blues as a result of the anti smoking law in Britain. Conditions have become so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has called for huge tax breaks to assist in keeping the industry from going bankrupt. But will the net version of this classic game provide a lifeline, or will it never compare to its real life opposite?

Bingo has been an familiar game generally played by the "blue haired" generation. For all that the game recently had experienced a recent increase in appeal with younger people opting to go to the bingo parlors instead of the discos on a weekend. This is all about to change with the legislating of the anti cigarette law around United Kingdom.

No longer will enthusiasts be able to smoke whilst dabbing numbers. Starting in the summer of 2007 all public places will no longer be permitted to allow smoking in their locations and this includes Bingo parlors, one of the most favored areas where people enjoy smoking.

The effects of the cigarette ban can already be looked at in Scotland where cigarettes are already forbidden in the bingo halls. Numbers have plunged and the industry is absolutely struggling for to stay alive. But where did all the players go? Surely they haven’t cast aside this ancient game?

The answer is on the net. Players realise that they can enjoy bingo in front of their computer whilst enjoying a beer and fag and still enjoy monstrous prizes. This is a recent development and has timed itself bordering on perfect with the anti smoking law.

Of course playing on the internet will never replace the communal portion of going down to the bingo hall, but for a group of men and women the law has left a lot of bingo enthusiasts with no choice.
