Might the Smoking Ban in Britain Take Bingo Players On to the Net?
Posted in Bingo on 10/04/2016 10:21 pm by EileenA lot has been written in the papers just a while ago concerning the bingo industry singing the blues because of the anti smoking law in Britain. Conditions have become so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has called for big tax cuts to help keep the industry afloat. But can the web variation of this quintessential game present a lifeline, or will it not compare to its bricks and mortar opposite?
Bingo has been an enduring game usually played by the "blue haired" generation. However the game recently had undergone a recent increase in acceptance with younger members of society deciding to visit the bingo parlours in place of the discos on a Saturday night. This is all about to get flipped on its head with the enforcement of the anti smoking law around England and Wales.
No longer will enthusiasts be permitted to smoke at the same time marking off their numbers. Starting in the summer of ‘07 all public locations will no longer be allowed to permit smoking in their buildings and this includes Bingo parlors, one of the most popular locations where people enjoy smoking.
The effects of the anti cigarette law can already be felt in Scotland where smoking is already barred in the bingo parlors. Numbers have plummeted and the business is absolutely fighting for to stay alive. But where have all the players gone? Of course they have not abandoned this familiar game?
The answer is on the net. Gamblers realise that they can play bingo from their computer whilst enjoying a beer and cig and in the end, enjoy big jackpots. This is a recent phenomenon and has timed itself bordering on perfect with the anti smoking law.
Of course gambling on on the net can never replace the communal aspect of going down to the bingo parlour, but for a demographic of men and women the rules have left many bingo enthusiasts with no alternative.
